A very thorough review, Greg. My dad was a cowboy and tried to make me one, but I resisted. After riding horses all day for a year, I decided the Army was where I belonged. I did read the old westerns, like Zane Grey, Max Brand, Louis L’Amour, and others, but never got into the adult westerns. Great Site, BTW.

Thanks, Tom! I pre-ordered Lady Gunsmith #2, and have Edge #1 and a stack of old Westerns to read. It’s a sort of nostalgia for me. Your site, pulplair.blogspot.com, is a treat for the eyes. More importantly, it’s an accessible and enlightening education for those who aren’t familiar with the great pulp tradition.

It’s the venerable Robert Randisi. He just told me it should be out in April. I need to read #4 myself, thanks for reminding me!

    Hi there.

Enjoyed your review. I’ve been a longtime fan of the genre, and prefer the women protagonists. Randisi previously wrote a series called Angel Eyes, which lasted 9 books, and Liz Archer sounds a lot like Lady Gunsmith, so I’ll eagerly check it out now that I’ve found out about it. There was another long series from the creators of Longarm called Lone Star, which featured another amazing woman of the West, Jessica Starbuck. Those books were uneven, but there were some true gems in there.

The world of adult Westerns was all-new to me. I like female protagonists too. I’ll take your suggestion and look into Lone Star!
